The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State on Monday 29th September, 2025 successfully conducted its rescheduled state congress in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere, bringing together stakeholders, party leaders and delegates across the 33 local government areas of the state.
The congress which was held at the popular Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan, was described by observers as a clear demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his address, Governor Seyi Makinde commended members of the party for their maturity, resilience and loyalty to the PDP, assuring them that the government would continue to provide dividends of democracy and ensure that members enjoy more benefits of governance.
Makinde, who reiterated his administration’s resolve to deepen development across the state, emphasized that the unity of the party remained the strongest asset in retaining power in Oyo State. He urged party faithfuls to remain steadfast and work together towards consolidating the achievements of the present administration, stressing that the PDP remains the only party with the structure and capacity to deliver good governance both in the state and at the national level.
Party leaders, including H.E Sule Lamido, former Governor of Jigawa state who observed the process, expressed optimism that the peaceful conduct of the congress was an indication of greater victories ahead, while commending Governor Makinde for his leadership and inclusive style of governance.
