Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule and Other Rivers Elders Meet in Port Harcourt

A high-profile meeting which was held in Port Harcourt on Saturday night brought together Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and Martins Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The gathering also included Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, along with “other leaders” of the Rivers political family.

The meeting was characterized by a visible show of reconciliation among key stakeholders in Rivers State, following prolonged political tension. Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to Minister Wike, posted photos of the gathering on Sunday and described it as signifying a fully united political leadership in the state.

While the content of the discussions was not made public, observers view the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to heal divisions in Rivers politics, particularly those arising from the crisis involving the State House of Assembly.

The meeting comes in the wake of earlier interventions, including a reconciliation push led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and a state of emergency that was lifted recently.
