An estate agent, Temitope Animashaun, was arraigned on Tuesday at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding accommodation seekers of approximately ₦15 million.
The charges brought by prosecutor ASP Anthony Igori include conspiracy, fraud and stealing, across 67 counts under Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State 2000.
According to the prosecution, Animashaun purported to help clients secure properties: between January and September, she allegedly collected amounts such as ₦300,000 from one Mr Abiodun Balogun for a two-bedroom apartment; ₦190,000 from Mr Raheem Ogundowole for a shop; and ₦150,000 (among sums from about 20 others) from Mr Soliu Salimon yet failed to deliver the promised accommodation.
Animashaun pleaded not guilty to the charges. She has been granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties of like sum each; one surety must be a blood relative. The case is adjourned to November 29 for hearing.
