Osun PDP Reaffirms Party Identity, Hold Stakeholders’ Meeting in Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, 12th February, 2025 held a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, the state capital, as part of efforts to consolidate its structures amid the ongoing political developments in the state. The meeting brought together party leaders, elders, executives and members across the state.
The gathering comes in the wake of the recent defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the PDP to the Accord Party, a development that has reshaped the political landscape in Osun State. In response to the evolving situation, Hon. Chief Babatunde Tijani was appointed as the Osun PDP Caretaker Chairman to steer the affairs of the party and stabilize its structure.
Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, Hon. Tijani emphasized that the PDP in Osun remains a distinct and independent political platform. He firmly dismissed suggestions of any merger or operational alignment with the Accord Party, stressing that the PDP retains its identity and institutional framework. According to him, the party remains focused on strengthening its grassroots base and repositioning itself for future political engagements.
The meeting was attended by prominent party leaders, including Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipupo, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and other key stakeholders, which underscored what party officials described as a collective commitment to unity and continuity within the PDP fold.
Participants reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and resolved to intensify mobilization efforts at the ward and local government levels. The leadership urged members to remain steadfast, avoid distractions and concentrate on consolidating the party’s structures across the state.
Party officials described the stakeholders’ engagement as strategic and necessary, noting that it provided an opportunity to clarify the party’s position and reassure members amid shifting political alignments. The PDP leadership maintained that despite recent defections, the party remains intact and committed to its ideals and democratic principles.
